Admission to Teacher Education is the point at which a candidate has completed the requirements listed below and formally applies to be admitted to a program that leads to a PA Teaching Certification. In order to successfully complete the program on time, candidates are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible after meeting the requirements. Once candidates have earned Admission to Teacher Education, they may take the education courses that are restricted to education majors.  Applications for Admission to Teacher Education are accepted throughout the academic year.

Admission to Teacher Education Requirements

  • All required pre-admission courses completed as designated by the program including the following:
    • Introduction course
    • 6 credits of Mathematics
    • 3 credits of English Composition
    • 3 credits of English Literature
  • Minimum 48 credits completed by the end of the current semester.
  • GPA of 3.0 or greater OR GPA of 2.8 to 2.99 with passing Basic Skills scores
    • GPA of 2.8 to 2.99 must meet one of the Basic Skills requirements below:
      • Passing scores on Praxis Core or PAPA tests. See PDE’s Certification Test and Score Requirements (Basic Skills tab) for passing scores and test registration links.
      • SAT combined score of 1050, with no score lower than 500 on either the verbal or mathematics subtests.
      • ACT score of no less than 23 on the English subtest and 20 on the Mathematics subtest.
  • Completion of new Act 24.
  • Required Clearances Submitted in Anthology.

  3. Complete the PennWest Admission to Teacher Education Application and forward it to your advisor along with all required documentation as indicated on the application.
