How Merit Benefits Students

Merit creates a verified, online profile that highlights your achievements across your time at PennWest. It serves as a clear, accessible way for people who make decisions about internships, graduate programs and employment to understand your strengths and involvement.

Your Merit page also shows how your academic work, campus involvement, research, internships and other opportunities support your development and prepare you for next steps.

Merit pages are easy to share with the people who are invested in your success — family, friends, mentors, former teachers or coaches, volunteer organizations and potential employers.

What We Share

Merit stories may include:

  • Dean’s List recognition
  • Research or creative presentations
  • Participation in student organizations or campus activities
  • Internships or other experiential learning opportunities
  • Study abroad and special programs

Your Merit Page

Each PennWest student has a personalized Merit page that serves as an online portfolio of their university experience. You can:

  • View awards, honors and milestones added by PennWest
  • Personalize your profile with photos
  • Add academic achievements, activities, volunteer work and employment experience
  • Customize your Merit page URL
  • Add a bio, photos and even videos

Your Merit page remains available after graduation as a record of your work and progress.

Sharing Your Success

When achievements are posted, PennWest may share them with:

  • Your family
  • Your former high school
  • Local media outlets
  • State representatives

You can also invite friends, family members, and mentors to receive updates by subscribing to student news and achievements.

When students and families share Merit achievements on social networks, it helps highlight the opportunities available at PennWest and the progress students make during their time here.

How to Claim Your Page

If you receive an email from Merit, follow the link provided to claim your page.

You’ll be asked to confirm your PennWest email address, and once verified, you can update and personalize your profile at any time.

Opting Out

Participation in Merit is optional. If you prefer not to have your achievements shared, you may opt out at any time using the link provided in the footer of any Merit notification. You can also email your request to communications@pennwest.edu.

Your Merit page gives employers, graduate programs and internship coordinators an easy way to see the work you’ve done. It connects your classroom learning with the real experiences you gain at PennWest, such as research, campus involvement, internships and study away programs.

You can share your page with anyone who supports your success, including family, mentors, former teachers and coaches.

No. Your Merit page is created automatically when the university posts your first achievement. You don’t have to maintain or update it unless you choose to.

Yes. You can add a profile photo, bio, work experience, activities and volunteer roles. You may also customize your Merit page URL and upload photos or videos that help show who you are.

These updates help show the full picture of your time at PennWest.

When a new achievement is posted, PennWest may share it with your family, your former high school, local media outlets and state representatives.

You can also invite friends, family members, and mentors to receive updates by subscribing to student news and achievements.

If you receive an email from Merit, follow the link provided:

  1. Enter your PennWest email address.
  2. Check your inbox for a confirmation email.
  3. Click the link in that message to claim your page.
    Once claimed, you can update and personalize your profile whenever you’d like.

If you haven't received an email from Merit, follow these steps:

  1. Visit pennwest.meritpages.com
  2. Type your name in the “Search for students” box and press Enter. 
  3. Click “Use Email” in the top right corner of the page. 
  4. Enter your PennWest email address and click “Submit.” 
  5. Check your PennWest email for a login link and follow the instructions in the message.

Yes. Merit is optional. You may opt out at any time by using the link in the footer of any Merit notification. Opting out removes your page and stops future postings.
