From those with no experience to those who are pros, PennWest Clarion’s Acoustic Music Fun, scheduled for 3 to 6 p.m. Feb. 9 and 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 10 on the second floor of Gemmell Student Center, welcomes everyone to join the fun.

Funded through Pennsylvania Humanities’ Sharp Grant, the weekend includes award-winning folk/world music ensemble Simple Gifts. The band, which performs 60 to 80 shows a year in a nine-state area, features Linda Littleton and Karen Hirshon, who perform on 12 instruments including fiddle, mandolin, hammered dulcimer, guitar, banjo and recorder.

Beginners can try a variety of folk instruments, including ukulele, bowed psaltery and spoons. Intermediate/advanced attendees are invited to bring any folk instrument and join the jams or take some classes.

Folk Music Weekend is free and open to anyone age 18 or older. Preregistration is required. For a full schedule and to register, visit www.clarion.edu/folkmusic. Meals are not included.
