At PennWest University, your goals aren’t just ideas — they’re plans in motion.
We are a public, multi-campus university built on opportunity, connection, and purpose. Every day, we help students discover what’s possible and turn ambition into achievement through accessible, career-relevant education.
Our graduates strengthen communities, fuel regional industries, and make a difference in Pennsylvania and beyond. We’re proud to educate the next generation of thinkers, doers, and leaders who will shape the future.
PennWest’s story spans more than 170 years.
California, Clarion, and Edinboro each opened their doors in the 1800s to students seeking opportunity through education. Across generations, these universities shaped leaders, educators, artists, innovators, and change-makers — building strong traditions of academic excellence and community impact.
In July 2022, these three proud institutions came together to form PennWest University — a forward-thinking, student-centered university designed to meet the needs of today’s learners while honoring the history and identity of each campus.
Today, PennWest serves students across Pennsylvania and beyond through campuses in California, Clarion, Edinboro, and a comprehensive Global Online presence. As one university with distinct campus identities, we offer a unified, high-quality educational experience rooted in flexibility, access, and real-world relevance.
Guided by the values of resiliency, community, practicality, and empowerment, PennWest delivers academic programs aligned with workforce needs and emerging opportunities. Students benefit from engaged faculty, hands-on learning, and flexible pathways that support both personal growth and professional success.
By combining the strengths of three historic universities into one institution, PennWest offers more programs, more support, and more ways for students to shape their future. Together, we prepare learners to adapt, lead, and succeed in a changing world — because when we come together, what’s possible is truly within reach.
