The Edinboro women’s basketball club team recently completed its fall non-conference schedule.  

On Nov. 5, Edinboro went 2-0 in the Edinboro Women’s Club Basketball Fall Shootout by defeating St. Bonaventure University, 62-30, and Kent State University, 68-58.

Against St. Bonaventure, Maddie Cowie scored 14 points, Emily Cevera scored 11 points and Torsha McCall added 10 points. Carly Churchill hauled down 10 rebounds, and Rylee Haight and Maria Abate played solid defense.

Against Kent State, Cevera posted a double-double by scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. McCall scored 16 points, Joelle Paul scored 10 points, and Mia Engdahl made a critical basket late in the game. Heidi Gordon and Jayden Joya were key contributors on defense.

On Nov. 12, Edinboro went 1-1 and advanced to the championship game of the Edinboro Women’s Club Basketball Fall Tournament by beating Walsh University, 56-52, in the semifinal game before losing in a close contest to West Virginia University, 68-60, in the championship game.

Against Walsh, Paul scored 12 points, and Cora Jekielek and Eden Rush were standouts on defense. Against West Virginia, Cowie scored 20 points, Cevera scored 12 points and Alyjah Carter gave solid defensive effort.

In January, Edinboro will begin to play conference games. Edinboro plays in the NCBBA-W North Atlantic-West Conference and will play two games against its conference members, including Niagara, St. Bonaventure, St. John Fisher, SUNY Oswego and SUNY Brockport.

The top two teams in the conference will advance to the NCBBA-W Regional Tournament on April 6-7.  Edinboro will open its conference schedule by playing Niagara at home at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21 in Pogue Student Center.
