This free, public event will feature critic Steven Litt and geographer Laurie Parendes in a conversation with gallery director Lisa Austin about the ‘Know the Place’ exhibit.

Critic Steven Litt has been the art and architecture critic of Cleveland’s newspaper the Plain Dealer since 1991 and has also written for several publications including ART news. Litt covers the visual arts, architecture as well as city and regional planning in the Great Lakes region. Litt has completed an essay to be featured in the forthcoming Bruce Gallery Press catalog, “Know the Place.”

Geographer Laurie Parendes teaches at PennWest Edinboro and has served in the Peace Corps in Nepal, worked for California’s Fish and Game’s Endangered Plant Program, conducted research in Florida’s cypress swamps and studied Zebra Mussels in Edinboro Lake. Dr. Parendes research focuses on the relationship between humans and the environment.

Artist Lisa Austin teaches at PennWest Edinboro and directs the university’s Bruce Gallery. Through her collaborative, Civitas.design, Austin initiated the creation of organizations addressing aspects of place: All Aboard Erie (transportation), Connect Urban Erie (urban design), Innovation Erie and Made in Erie Lab and Marketplace (product design and training) and Preservation Erie (adaptive reuse).
