Special Education Career Changer
If you have the drive to make a lasting difference in the lives of students with learning disorders, developmental delays, and other disabilities, PennWest University’s Special Education Career Changer, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate can help you take that step.
Designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree, this program prepares you to earn Special Education PK–12 Certification in Pennsylvania. You’ll learn how to provide specialized and individualized instruction at every grade level, from early learning classrooms through high school, equipping students with the tools they need to maximize their potential.
Guided by experienced faculty who are themselves special education professionals, you’ll study research-based instructional strategies, diagnostic tools, and the foundations of child and adolescent development. Your coursework, paired with student teaching experiences, will prepare you to design effective individualized education plans (IEPs), address a wide range of disabling conditions, and meet the diverse cognitive, behavioral, and physical needs of your students.
Through PennWest’s strong partnerships with local schools, you’ll gain real-world classroom experience while building the knowledge and confidence to succeed. Upon completion, you’ll be fully prepared for Pennsylvania’s teacher certification requirements—and ready to begin a rewarding career as a special education teacher.
As part of the School of Education, you’ll engage in accredited programs, real classroom field experiences, and partnerships with local schools that prepare you to teach, lead, and inspire future generations.
