"Always ask for help. Don't ever be like, 'I don't need help.'"

Some students dip a toe into campus life; Bethany Morrow dove in. She swore into the Army National Guard at 17, works weekend doubles as a CNA, mentors and tutors for TRIO, serves as an ambassador, and leads Clarion’s Student Senate. “I love helping people a lot,” she says simply. “I love staying busy.”

Her Senate journey started with observation—watching leaders, learning the rhythms—then stepping into the chair of Student Relations. The hook? “Planning events and seeing how you can really make a difference on campus with just one little event,” she says. Those moments—when finals stress breaks into laughter—fuel her drive to take on more responsibility and “see what all I can accomplish this year.”

This year, Bethany is looking forward to the activities fair and a campus-favorite mascot making an updated debut. She lights up talking about the Autumn Leaf Festival—“a chance for all the clubs and the community to come together… it’s a really fun event.” It’s the kind of tradition that anchors students to a place and to each other.

Her schedule would intimidate most: Guard field training, clinical coursework, weekend doubles. But service threads it all together—whether stabilizing a hectic shift or welcoming first-years at a table. “Always ask for help,” she tells new students. “Don’t be shy. Step out of your comfort zone… a club can really make you grow as a person.”

Balance, for Bethany, isn’t about doing less—it’s about purpose. Nursing labs build clinical judgment; CNA shifts teach presence and compassion; Senate leadership sharpens communication and event logistics. Together, they form a career-ready toolkit. And yes, there’s time for online shopping—her lighthearted counterweight to long days.

Leadership doesn’t have to be loud to be strong. Bethany’s version is steady, service-first, and team-oriented. She measures success by the smiles at an event, the first-year who finds a home in a club, the resident who feels seen on a tough shift.

Bethany’s path shows PennWest at its best—real-world experience, community support, and flexible ways to get involved, so students can serve, lead, and thrive in their studies and beyond.
