About Me

Dr. Young-Gyoung Kim is a professor in the department of Education at PennWest Clarion. She received her Ed. D in special education from Illinois State University in 2004. She specialized in severe & multiple disabilities and got autism certification from Pennsylvania State University. She has been teaching a variety of courses in special education at PennWest University since 2004 such as Foundations of Special Education, Physical disabilities & Health impairments, Emotional Disturbance & Learning Disabilities, Assistive Technology, Natures & Characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders, Contemporary Education Practices and Directions, etc. Dr. Kim’s research areas are autism, assistive technology, alternate assessment, and teaching strategies for students with severe disabilities. Dr. Kim has been serving the Pennsylvania TASH known as PennTASH (The Association with Persons with Severe Handicaps) as a board member for more than a decade.  She made numerous presentations at national and international conferences pertaining to special education and published journal articles in special education periodically.
