About Me
Dr. Hawley is a Professor in the Department of Psychology, Counseling, and Art Therapy at PennWest Edinboro. Dr. Hawley earned a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Brockport, a Master of Science degree in Experimental Psychology from Indiana State University, and a Ph.D. in Psychology, with a concentration in Behavioral Neuroscience, from Tulane University. Prior to joining the faculty at PennWest Edinboro, he completed postdoctoral training in the Biology Department at Syracuse University, taught and conducted research with students at Franklin and Marshall College. His research program at PennWest Edinboro, which involves many undergraduate research assistants, primarily examines the psychological and biological factors associated with sexual behavior and sexual decision making. Dr. Hawley and his students have published numerous research articles in well-respected neuroscience and psychology journals. In addition, nearly all his undergraduate research assistants have presented the results from their studies at either regional or international scientific conferences. Many of the students in his research laboratory have gone on to pursue graduate degrees in psychology or neuroscience. In addition to teaching introductory level courses in psychology, Dr. Hawley regularly teaches classes in neuroscience and experimental psychology. Dr. Hawley was previously recognized as the university’s Scholar of Year and serves on numerous university-wide and departmental committees. He is also a peer reviewer for several neuroscience and behavioral endocrinology journals and has regularly given presentations on a variety of topics in neuroscience and experimental psychology to doctoral-level psychology interns at the Veterans Affairs in Erie, PA.
