About Me
Dr. Elizabeth Larsen is a Professor of Sociology, Social Sciences, and Conflict Resolution at Pennsylvania Western University. Previously, she conducted free-lance research and consulting for Carnegie Mellon University, Magee Women’s Hospital, Centers for Disease Control, and Pittsburgh-based agencies for social and mental health services. She delivered research products that resulted in positive social change for all these organizations. Dr. Larsen served as President for the Pennsylvania Sociological Society, and for the National Association for Applied and Clinical Sociology (AACS). She has contributed to Teaching Resources and Innovations Library for Sociology (TRAILS), serving the American Sociology Association and its members. Dr. Larsen authored a peer-reviewed book on gender and work, published by Rowman & Littlefield, and has written chapters for edited volumes in sociology. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed academic journals, including Contemporary Ethnography; Gender, Work & Organization; Journal of Applied Social Science; Journal of Women & Minorities in Science & Engineering; Sociological Viewpoints; and Gender, Work & Organization. Dr. Larsen envisioned and developed the 100% online Master’s Program in Conflict Resolution. She is a nationally certified professional mediator and regularly engages with professional development in the field. Dr. Larsen teaches in the program, advises students, and maintains a strong curriculum, regularly updated to meet the needs of students in this rapidly growing field.
