About Me
Laura Giachetti is an Associate Professor in the Department of Student Services - TRIO Division of Pennsylvania Western University. She is a proud 92’ and 02’ Alumna of PennWest California Campus (formerly known as California University of Pennsylvania). As a first-generation college student, Laura is passionate about equal access and opportunity for higher education and helping students succeed. In 2003, she was hired as the Upward Bound Counselor until 2005, when she moved into her role as one of the directors. Since 2017, she has been the Director of Student Support Services. As a successful grant writer, she has secured over 15 million dollars in federal and state funds, serving thousands of students through TRIO and other programs. Over the past 20 years, Laura has been an active faculty member on numerous committees at PennWest including Student Conduct, General Education, Faculty Senate, APSCUF, and within the Department serving on both the Promotion and Tenure committee. Laura is very involved in her profession and in higher education and has been participating in conferences at the local, state, national levels. In addition, she is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) and has worked in many areas of the health care systems of Fayette, Greene and Washington counties. Lastly, Laura interest beyond PennWest include spending time with her family and friends as well as her favorite pastime of golf, boating and travel.
