About Me
Christine Shumaker is a clinical faculty member and instructor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department in the College of Health Sciences and Human Services at the Edinboro campus.
She has over 35 years of experience as a speech-language pathologist and has worked in a variety of clinical settings in the health care industry including acute care, rehabilitation hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, and home health. Chris has been active in the profession of speech-language pathology by being a member of ASHA Special Interest Groups (Neurogenic Communication Disorders and Administration and Supervision) in addition to participating in ASHA’s Career Transitions Mentoring Program (CTMP).
She has been a long-standing member of the Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association and has served as a member of the convention planning committee. Through her involvement in the state convention planning process, she has participated in various faculty panel discussions involving transitioning to the higher education setting, as well as a student discussion panel involving the importance of soft skills in the workplace and IPP collaborations.
Chris has served the university via her role as the primary SLP for the Parkinson Voice Project’s SPEAK OUT! Program in which she coordinates the Program Development Grant which provides graduate students with free training and skills necessary to work with the Parkinson population in the clinic setting. She also serves as the undergraduate program coordinator for the Edinboro campus working on recruitment and retention of students, assists with the university clinic’s hearing screening initiative, and more.
Chris’s clinical interests and areas of expertise include clinical supervision and adult neurogenic and cognitive disorders. She is licensed in the state of Pennsylvania and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).
