Brian Zimmerman, PhD

Dr. Brian Zimmerman has been a faculty member on the Edinboro campus for 31 years.  He holds degrees in geology from Juniata College, Ohio State, and Washington State Universities.  Dr. Zimmerman has taught a variety of Geology courses including Mineralogy, Petrology, Geology of Our Nations Parks, Mineral Resources, and Introduction to Earthquakes and Volcanoes.  Before coming to Edinboro his primary area of research was the study of gold deposits in Oregon and Idaho.  Due in part to a lack of gold deposits in northwest Pennsylvania, Dr. Zimmerman has shifted his research to focus on the geologic history and environmental management of Edinboro Lake.  He has served on the board of the Edinboro Lake Watershed Association since its founding in 2004.  Dr. Zimmerman currently serves as an Interim Associate Dean in the College of Science, Technology and Business and has previously served a total of 17 years as the Chairperson for the Department of Geosciences.
