About Me
Dr. Angela Bloomquist is a Professor of School Psychology in the Education Department housed within the College of Education, Arts and Humanities at Pennsylvania Western University (Penn West). She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh followed by a Master of Education and Educational Specialist Certification in School Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). As a practicing school psychologist in the Pittsburgh area, she was highly invested in special education identification and program evaluation, provided ongoing workshops and individual consultation to educational professionals, implemented a school-wide bullying prevention program, developed a crisis-response team, worked to establish district norms using curriculum-based measurement and created an instructional video entitled "Introduction to the IEP" for parents to review in order to better understand special education procedures and to facilitate family-school relationships. During this time, she found the mentoring of interns to be most rewarding. Accordingly, she completed a Doctor of Education in School Psychology with a Specialization in Family School Collaboration at IUP and became a professor. First at IUP, also serving as the acting Co-Coordinator of the Peer Educator program within IUP’s Learning Enhancement Center. Then at California University of Pennsylvania, now known as Penn West, where she has also served as the Program Coordinator of the School Psychology program for over a decade. Dr. Bloomquist has also lent her expertise in assessment to a number of university committees related to accreditation at the program, college, and university-wide levels. She serves as a program reviewer for the National Association of School Psychologists and presents in-service training programs to local educators on a variety of topics related to school psychology. Dr. Bloomquist was both the on-screen host, “Miss Palomine” and educational consultant for "Meet Me at the Great Tree," an original children's television program designed to get preschool and kindergarten children excited about learning and literacy. Ten episodes were produced by the National Network of Digital Schools and aired in select cities across the United States. Current research interests include Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and accreditation preparation. Affiliations: NASP, ASPP, Phi Kappa Phi, Psi Chi.
