About Me
Dr. Andrew Lingwall is a Professor in the Department of Business, Economics, and Communication at PennWest Clarion. He has taught courses in strategic communications, public relations, and advertising at the university since 2004.
Prior to joining academia, Lingwall worked as an account executive with Russell & Herder Advertising and PR in Minnesota and as a public relations specialist with Tacoma Community College in Washington state. He was also a news reporter and features writer with The News Tribune in Tacoma.
Lingwall’s research agenda centers on public relations education and student writing skills in programs of journalism and mass communication. In 2017, he co-authored The Basics of Media Writing: A Strategic Approach for SAGE Publications. He is now working on a second edition of the book, which is due out in 2026.
Lingwall is a passionate international scholar and traveler. He has taught graduate seminars in strategic communication at Catholic University in Lille, France and an international public relations course at Universidad de Alcalá, Spain. Lingwall spent his 2017 sabbatical in Aalborg, Denmark studying the career preparedness of public relations graduates. In 2023, he spent four months at Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand studying the government’s crisis communications messaging during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019, Lingwall was named a Scripps Howard Foundation Visiting Professor in Social Media by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).
