It’s showtime at PennWest University! This bachelor’s degree in Theatre is built on a long tradition of excellence, where students are paired with top scholar-artisans who have devoted their lives to performance and theater. Because our theatre degree is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, you can be sure you will receive a balanced mix of pre-professional training, performance and a classic liberal arts education.
Our professors are not only accomplished scholars, they are also passionate artists with long histories as professional artisans. They will help you grow into a well-rounded artisan, too. A broad general education component builds collaboration, time management, self-motivation and empathy skills while you grow your critical thinking skills by analyzing texts, music, literature and historical trends.
You will have extensive opportunities to hone your performance skills in our outstanding theatre facilities and can apply for internships and prepare for auditions and interviews with expert guidance from faculty mentors and advisors.
If you have a passion for the theater and teaching, you could also use this degree to become a drama or theater educator.

Recent projections suggest that job opportunities for theater majors are growing faster than most industries, with electronic media contributing greatly to that trend. While jobs many vary from city to city and type of theater production, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a better-than-average increase in jobs for actors between now and 2031 as a result of growing demand for television, film and new media performers. It lists the average annual income earned by experienced set designers as $97,320 and estimates that drama and theater teachers will be in very high demand, with job vacancies increasing by more than 36% since 2004.
