What You'll Study
You'll complete a comprehensive curriculum in biology, chemistry, physics and biochemistry while developing laboratory skills, quantitative reasoning and scientific problem-solving abilities. The program also includes coursework in psychology and sociology, with opportunities to tailor your preparation through electives in anatomy and physiology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, ethics, calculus and advanced biology. This flexible curriculum allows you to align your coursework with the admission requirements of your target medical school.

How You'll Learn
Complete the certificate through in-person coursework at PennWest's California, Clarion or Edinboro campuses. You'll gain extensive laboratory experience in biology, chemistry and physics while strengthening analytical reasoning, scientific communication and quantitative skills. The curriculum is designed to prepare you for the academic rigor of medical school and complements clinical, volunteer and research experiences that strengthen medical school applications.
What You'll Become
The Pre-Medicine Certificate prepares you to apply to medical school by completing many of the prerequisite science courses required for admission. Whether you're a science major, a non-science major or a recent graduate, you'll graduate with a strong academic foundation for the MCAT and future study leading to a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree.
