Early Childhood and Special Education
Earn dual certification and get ready to make a world of difference, teaching students in grades PreK to 4 with PennWest University’s bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and special education.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, more than a quarter million students in Pennsylvania public schools alone require special education services. Many are young children with learning disorders, developmental delays and other disabilities that require special education.
PennWest’s dual BSED degree provides you with the skills, knowledge and competencies to help these students maximize their potential.
You’ll learn from top-notch professors who have experience working as teachers in early childhood and special education settings. They will share best practices, provide you with instructional strategies and tools, and help you connect theory with effective classroom management.
In addition, as a future teacher, you will gain valuable real-world experience, observing, learning and eventually student teaching in PreK and special education classrooms. Upon graduation, you’ll be prepared to sit for Pennsylvania Department of Education certification exams that will license you to work in special education programs as well as early childhood settings across Pennsylvania.
In addition to teaching certification in Special Education, you will receive the Endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorders, demonstrating your competency in teaching children with these special needs.
