The Student Activities Board at PennWest California has been named the 2026 National Student Programming Board of the Year by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA), recognizing the group’s outstanding work creating engaging programs and events for students.

The award was announced earlier in the spring 2026 semester at APCA’s national conference in Hershey, Pa., where PennWest California students joined campus programming leaders from colleges and universities across the country.

“This recognition reflects the creativity, leadership and dedication of our student leaders who work throughout the year to create experiences that bring our campus community together,” said Darrek Harshberger, Student Activities Board advisor. “We’re honored to receive this award and excited to continue building programs that help students connect and make the most of their time at PennWest.”

In addition to the national honor, the board also earned first place in APCA’s T-shirt and apparel design contest for its upcoming Bear-themed sweatshirt design.

Throughout the year, the Student Activities Board brings a wide range of programming to campus — from large-scale entertainment to community-building traditions. This spring, the board hosted a concert featuring 3OH!3 and Hot Chelle Rae, continuing its tradition of offering high-energy events that enhance the student experience.

Students recognized as part of the award-winning team are: Bri Bach, Rylee Kendro, Hannah Tickerhoof, Jenna Ciora, Laniah Walker, Emma Stefanick, Dakota Dennison, and Dominic Hoffmann, with Josh Nesky also participating in the national conference.
