Advising Day supports student progress toward graduation

PennWest University is strengthening its commitment to student success with the Wednesday, March 18, launch of Advising Day — a university-wide effort designed to help students plan ahead, connect with academic support, and stay on track toward graduation.
Advising Day sets aside dedicated time for students to meet with advisors, review academic progress, and prepare for upcoming registration. By sharpening the focus on advising conversations, PennWest is helping students approach degree planning with greater clarity and confidence.
“Advising Day gives students time to pause, reflect and take ownership of their academic plan,” said Rebecca Wehler, assistant professor of exercise, health and sport sciences at PennWest, who helped to plan the day. “It’s an opportunity to understand where they stand, what requirements remain, and what steps come next — so degree completion feels clear, organized, and manageable.”
In preparation for Advising Day, students are encouraged to schedule or confirm their advising appointments, review their Degree Works audit in advance, and check for any advising or registration holds. Coming prepared with questions about course selection, major requirements, internships, experiential learning opportunities or graduation timelines can help make advising conversations more productive.
While advising takes place throughout the semester, Advising Day creates a shared moment for students and advisors to focus on planning ahead and makinge informed decisions for the upcoming term.
“Being proactive about advising makes a real difference,” Wehler said. “When students take the time to plan ahead, ask questions, and understand their degree requirements, they’re setting themselves up for success not just this semester, but all the way to graduation.”
