PennWest University has established an endowed scholarship in memory of Dr. Carol Lee Webb, a 1966 graduate of the California campus and longtime educator whose career was dedicated to supporting students and advancing the field of special education.
The scholarship, created through a memorial gift from Webb’s husband, Col. Patrick Webb, will support students majoring in elementary education or special education on the PennWest California campus, helping future teachers pursue the same calling that defined Webb’s life and career.
In addition to the scholarship, the gift includes funding to support the Education Department on the California campus and the naming of Room 103 in Duda Hall in Webb’s memory.
“Dr. Webb believed deeply in the power of education to change lives,” said President Jon Anderson. “This scholarship will help future teachers follow that same path of service, compassion and opportunity.”
A dedication ceremony for the newly named space was held 11 a.m. March 19, followed by a private luncheon for Webb’s family, PennWest leadership and select faculty at the Kara Alumni House.
Webb earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from California State College in 1966 and later completed a Ph.D. in education from Ohio University. Throughout her career, she was known for her dedication to students and her belief in the potential of every learner, particularly those with special needs.
A memorial plaque installed outside the classroom will recognize Webb’s lifelong commitment to education and her belief that every student deserves the opportunity to learn and succeed.
The scholarship ensures that her commitment to teaching and student support will continue to impact future generations of educators at PennWest.
