PennWest Clarion will honor the memory of longtime choir director Milutin Lazich and celebrate several milestone anniversaries during Homecoming festivities Oct. 9-11.
Professor emeritus of voice and director of choirs, Lazich served at Clarion for four decades beginning in the 1960s. During his tenure, he influenced generations of music educators, conductors and performers.
Lazich directed numerous ensembles, including Show Choir and Concert Choir, and led the popular Madrigal Dinner, which featured a Renaissance theme and custom costumes from New York City. The event was held at the former Wolf’s Den in Knox.
“Milutin was loved by his students. He was funny, jovial and an incredible teacher,” said Rebecca Lopuh, director of choral activities. “He immersed students in a plethora of music styles, including Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, from which several movements will be performed during the tribute concert.”
The University Choir, which organized the concert with Lopuh, will present the free performance at 3 p.m. Oct. 11 in the auditorium of Marwick-Boyd Fine Arts Center.
Alumni are invited to rehearse and perform with the University Choir. The Clarion Alumni Association will provide a light luncheon, open to anyone who would like to share memories of Lazich, at noon in Gemmell MPR. Cost of the luncheon is $25; online registration is required by Oct. 2.
During halftime of the Oct. 10 football game against Gannon University, the Homecoming Court will be introduced, and the university will recognize the 100th anniversaries of its football, basketball, baseball and golf programs. Kickoff is at 2 p.m., and the Eagles Endzone Tailgate begins at 1 p.m. for preregistered alumni.
Kappa Alpha Psi will celebrate 40 years on the Clarion campus with a bench dedication ceremony at 4 p.m. Oct. 9 outside Becht Hall. The Class of 1976 Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. in Moore Hall. Registration is required.
The Cultural Nights performances that traditionally precede Homecoming will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 5-8 in front of Clarion County Courthouse. In case of rain, events will move to the adjacent park gazebo.
