Erie native and former Edinboro Student Government Association president Garrett Hannah is gaining real-world experience close to home as a Strategic Sourcing and Vendor Management intern at Erie Insurance. Over the past year, he’s grown from student to strategic contributor, and the experience has solidified his career goals.
“I have had many great experiences at ERIE,” Hannah said, “If I were to highlight one, it would be being able to lead trainings in our department.”
At Erie Insurance, Hannah has reviewed and scored contracts, developed department policies and procedures, trained colleagues, and drafted business-critical documents. He’s also conducted market research, applying economic principles learned in class to assess potential vendors. The experience has allowed him to bridge academic theory with practical business decisions.
“At ERIE, service is above all and an important aspect of our culture,” he said. “That is the most meaningful thing I have learned, and it has helped me see the importance of giving back to your community.”
After completing his bachelor's degree in economics with minors in business and political science, Hannah looks forward to pursuing a master’s degree in IT Management with a focus on technology and AI.
“Completing an internship is important because it gives you real-world experience before you enter the workplace, and it allows you to value the relevance of your coursework,” he said. “I hope every student can have a great intern experience like I have had at Erie Insurance.”
