About Me
Mary Weidner, PhD, CCC-SLP, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders and serves as the Graduate Program Director for the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program. Dr. Weidner instructs courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of speech sound disorders, fluency disorders, research, counseling. As a certified speech-language pathologist, Dr. Weidner provides clinical supervision in the area of pediatric communication disorders and has co-developed widely used clinical resources for stuttering. She also provides and supervises communication support to immigrants and refugees in the greater Erie region. Dr. Weidner has co-led therapy experiences in various countries. In 2023, she was featured in a BBC documentary, “The Traveling Speech Therapist.” Dr. Weidner’s research focuses on children’s attitudes towards stuttering and other human differences. She developed an educational program to improve children’s attitudes toward peers who stutter, which has been translated into several languages. She maintains numerous international collaborations and is involved in advocacy efforts aimed to improve services for people who stutter around the world. She has authored or co-authored several peer-reviewed publications in stuttering, and presented extensively at the state, national, and international levels. Dr. Weidner also serves as the VP of Convention Planning for the Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
