About Me
Dr. Janice McCall is an esteemed faculty member in the Undergraduate (BSW) and Graduate (MSW) Social Work programs at PennWest University. She brings a wealth of experience and joy of teaching to our university community.
Dr. McCall earned her Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh and her M.S.W. from UCLA. Her research remains broadly focused on the intersections of age, race, gender, institutionalized populations, and behavioral health. Dr. McCall has extensive experience working in various adult justice systems, particularly in program development, grants, and program evaluation with their special populations. She remains deeply interested and committed to research of Veterans treatment courts which has earned her recognition as one of the leaders in the field where she has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals.
As an educator, Dr. McCall is known for her dynamic teaching style, timeliness when responding to student inquiries, and her ability to engage students in critical dialogue about complex social issues. She teaches courses on trauma-informed practice, program evaluation, and research methods, among others, and incorporates diverse voices into her curriculum.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. McCall enjoys reading, BTS, walks with her dog, and spending time with her family. She is deeply committed to fostering a supportive learning environment where students are empowered to become compassionate and competent social work professionals dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of others.
