Dr. Alawami is an Associate Professor in Computer Engineering Technology, holding a PhD in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh. With expertise in cybersecurity and data analytics, she plays a pivotal role in teaching a variety of courses in these domains. Additionally, she holds a Security+ certification, adding practical industry insight to her academic endeavors. Her research interests include Data analytics and Natural Language Processing (NLP) for low resource languages, where she actively seeks to innovate and contribute to the advancement of these fields.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Alawami is passionately committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in the technology sector. She is actively involved in initiatives aimed at increasing female enrollment in STEM fields, including NCWIT, working tirelessly to create an equitable and diverse learning environment.
Furthermore, Dr. Alawami serves as a distinguished judge and co-chair for numerous national STEM fairs, including prestigious events such as ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair), Science Talent Search, Pittsburgh Science and Engineering Technology Fair, and Science Olympiad. Her dedication to nurturing the next generation of STEM leaders is evident through her extensive involvement in these influential platforms.
Additionally, Dr. Alawami holds the position of a visiting lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh School of Computing and Information Science, further contributing to the academic community by sharing her expertise and knowledge with students and colleagues.
